[Oddly enough, Jack's worries and wishes hit pretty close to home. Rex has gone through a very similar situation, and it occurs to him just now that he was incredibly lucky to never have had any similar devices stuck under his own skin. Surgeons could have easily slipped one in during the procedure that gave him his abilities, but at the time, they were just so damn sure he'd follow the rules that they got cocky. They had groomed him to be loyal, after all.
