[Moments tick by that they don't move, and Lucretia can feel her own thoughts teeter tottering. She mourned her loneliness. But more than that, it was a cloak she wore around her that she put on every day. Because the guilt of happiness weighed even more heavily.

But she doesn't let go. A crack in the wall that she's built around herself.

He speaks and her attention flicks outward, to him, and at first the trail of his sentence has her brows pinch together, understanding soon follows. His song. It had been a lovely one. Maybe if not for her resolute need to move forward she could have lingered longer, asked about it then.
