Log 05 Priority (Part I)
Have you all been enjoying your weeks at the spa and/or getting chased by dinosaurs? Well, it's time to get a move on! The next car awaits: it's time for a new priority car. Like last time, passengers will not be able to leave this car for two logs, so buckle in!

The Big Screen Car

As characters enter the car, their phones will send them a new notification...

...What a weird spam text? There's a lot of those going around lately.

Well, time to get to work!

Passengers will arrive in this car believing that they've lived in this car their entire lives. Effectively a modern AU version of themselves, they will have no knowledge of their powers, their past, or any details about their original worlds. Instead, they will believe they grew up in the modern day, that this is a place called DANACA, and that they work with an entertainment management company, FONY, in some capacity.




Maybe that makes you a director, producer, agent, model, singer, actor, idol, musician, sound guy, make-up artist, e-sports hotshot, lighting tech, beleaguered script writer, overworked intern, some dude who delivers sandwiches and ends up as an extra all the time... As a media giant, FONY has it all! And you're expected to work together on a litany of up and coming projects: the FAMA Awards Show, which will preview several hotly anticipated albums, shows, events, and movies! And that means all hands on deck. Characters will have very little problem with their AU skills, even if they never had any relevant experience in canon.

LOCATIONS

When characters get a breather, the car around them is a busy metropolis city with warm, dry weather that welcomes several beaches and pools. (It's literally LA, but with public transpo.) Enjoy all the modern amenities, like you've never lived without them! Passengers can visit any location that makes sense for a modern city, but here are some hotspots:

Club L'Euntaerio: The hottest club in Danaca! They keep the temperature uncomfortably low as they play only Danacan artists, like The Tragically Lame, or Dreka. Regardless, the night life here is vibrant, so it's a great place to let loose a little.

CN Corner: Not a destination so much as the corner beside Club L'Euntaerio, unofficially known to be the place to make illicit connections. Shady dealings happen here all the time, so it's a great place for designer drugs, information on your enemies, and alley-way shankings.

One drug in particular is on the rise. Sand, which provides Denizens with a mild high, will cause passengers to see people as other other characters from their canon. Even if you're not a fan of drugs, it's called Sand for a reason: it gets in everything (e.g. drinks, gummies, cigarettes, etc).

The New Danaca Mall: A newly renovated mall with three floors of your favorite retail outlets like Danaca Moose and Aboots! The employees are all fed up though, and you may end up hired on the spot for a part-time gig, or to hand out samples and promo materials because you're famous. If you manage to avoid retail hell, maybe you can just grab some boba and a pretzel and chill out with your friends.

Zoo: A zoo and garden with all kinds of strange, interesting creatures! You have your stock tigers, lizards, etc... as well as the odd addition from your home worlds. Trying to remember where you recognize these creatures will give you a headache though, so relax and enjoy your time here!

There is also a particularly troublesome goat here that will try to eat your things, or follow you home.

NOTABLE DENIZENS

Denizens vary from your stock humans to aliens and sentient animals. No one really seems to bat an eye at this — it's simply life in Danaca, where people from all walks of life have ended up. Here are some notable denizens that players are welcome to use at their convenience:

Mister Beaton: Beaton is one of FONY's attorneys, and one slip-up away from being arrested for embezzlement. He only works on full moons, but when he does, he often plants suspicious wads of cash on people, leaving them to be chased by FONY's security dogs in his stead.

Eliza Faulkner: The daughter of the CFO's newest wife, who hates everything and thinks the media is overrated. She dresses in sustainably sourced, hand stitched Amish clothing, and often threatens employees into getting her food or other items by using her step-father's position at the company. She will also spread malicious rumours to cause problems, such as claiming that someone had an affair and is now pregnant. :)

Nettle Tale: A power-mom animal consultant at FONY, who sometimes will dump her charges on unsuspecting bystanders whenever parenthood calls. Her usual pets are an extremely amorous anaconda, and a miniature pony that will cry unless held like a baby, but she's known for leaving all kinds of creatures in unprepared hands!

Chad Chadsef: No matter how famous or successful you might be, the head of FONY entertainment, CEO Chad Chadsef, is a very busy person! In fact, you can't ever seem to get an appointment or spot them, no matter how you may try.

OTHER

It's like you've been here forever, but... sometimes, you wonder if that's really the case. Maybe it's a slip-up at work where you forget your lines, or a sense of ill-placed deja vu, or a reflection in the mirror that doesn't match what it should. Characters may experience glimpses of their real lives, but they will be joined by an unsettled agitation and chill. The longer they dwell on it, the colder and more disorienting it gets, until they finally pass out with a fever.

Opt-out: For a few, this 'new' life doesn't seem to take root. Players that would rather opt-out of playing an AU will have their characters wake up in bed, still surrounded by their AU life. However, they won't recognize any of it. Whether it's a call from your mom, a job as a singer you've never had, or the very world around you, you'll realize that it's all a fabrication of the car.

These characters will feel a slight chill all the time, despite the weather. The more attention they draw to themselves, and the more they try to enlighten others of the car mechanics, the colder it gets, as though the chill is physically gripping down on them. NPCs will start to stare blankly at them, and a sense of dread will settle in their stomachs. It may be wiser to try and play along until you know what's going on.




OOC Notes

• AU Plotting: Players are encouraged to AU their CR! Everyone can already know each other, whether in passing or more, so feel free to user our plotting post to collaborate on AU details. Consider also filling out your FONY employee profile in the comments for other players to reference!
  
  
• Powers: Characters may keep their powers or not, player's choice. Keep in mind that they will not cognitively be aware of their abilities, and may not know how to use or control them. Think of a "Spider-man discovering his powers for the first time" scenario.
  
  
• Transformations: The Halloween curses will no longer be effect this log. Non-human characters can opt to transform into humans, but it isn't required.
  
  
• Backstories: For ease of AU purposes, players can make up whatever countries they like, etc. Characters do not need to be from Danaca originally, but everyone should live a reasonable commute from work.
  
  
• Items: Characters' inventories will be in a trunk at the foot of their bed, though they may not remember what they are. All characters are allowed one free item from home.

[ Idol training can be grueling, but Athanasia tells herself that it's more than worth it. More than seeing the joy of her fans, it is worth it for her family. She can do anything for her family. And their numerous animal friends.

(Though in reality, she's never known a functional family. In one life, she'd been left all alone, and in her current one, she has to run away from her father. She has to pretend she doesn't know her cousin is her cousin.

Can she really be herself in front of her family? Can she drop her defenses?)

Every moment with her brother is her favorite, something she looks forward to. Well, almost every. She can appreciate how much he tries with her, and she knows just how much he loves horses. Her smile is more knowing than agreement. ]

Yeah, the fluffiness is really cute!

[ Horses are more pretty and majestic to her, seeing as how any grown horse can trample her, but being in this family means she's not scared of that. ]

But those miniature ponies that hang around FONY are a little cuter. This one is very... stately!

[ Yeah, he's such a horse girl that apparently they have stables. I hate it here. All their FONY money goes to feed and dog treats.

But that just means that he's all too familiar with getting kicked and bucked, so he's careful to let the horse approach at its own pace. ]

It does look rather regal, doesn't it?

[ The horse clops over plaintively, because he's taking out a small treat that he'd purchased at the gates: a bag of sliced apples. ] Here—you can take this, Athy. Just be careful to keep your fingers flat.

[ ... ]

Sorry. You know that already, of course. [ It's a little hypocritical of him to be Protective, considering how stifling he'd found it sometimes, but it's second nature to him. ]

[ Everybody has their vices. His are horses and dogs. It's fine? Athanasia isn't protesting, not when she has a loving family.

She doesn't mind being protected. It's a sign that's she's loved, and isn't that a wonderful thing? Isn't it a wonderful thing that she can believe it? She can believe in that without any doubt. He's admonished himself, so Athy laughs. ]

You're going to worry even when I tell you not to.

[ She takes the apple slices and offers it to the horse, fingers flat as instructed, patient and calm. ]

It's okay, Dima. Lucky for you, I don't like getting hurt.

[ She's not the one who's a STUNT DOUBLE. ]

[ She's a composed young lady—they share the same, surface manners, but it's really a wonder that they're related. He spent so much of his youth getting into trouble, finding some excuse or another to get injured.

It's lucky that she isn't the older one: he'd have given her a heart attack as a boy. ]

A backhanded comment if there ever was one, Athy.

[ His tone is light. He is lucky, isn't he? They share some hardships, but who doesn't? A loving family is so much more than some people get. It's something he's always treasured—it's something he can't help but want to protect, even if it's unnecessary.

However put-together she is, she's still young, and very small. As evidenced by the way this horse completely dwarfs her, chewing amicably out of her hand. The apples seem to get the attention of another creature—a pegasus ambles over, its snow-white wings folded primly at its sides. ]

Oh, I didn't realize they had pegasi as well here. [ must've been an import from Real Canada in the arctic north ]

Stop it! You're the best brother any girl could wish for.

[ She means it sincerely. She wouldn't trade Dimitri for anyone else even for how overprotective he can be. He loves deeply, and she wouldn't ask for him to change that. She wants to nudge him to be a little less destructive, though. Long-lasting loving brothers are better than the best.

Family that stays, family that she can stay with—that should be normal, but how come it's something she aches for even if she doesn't know how to voice it?

She laughs when the pegasus comes over because I guess Canada is now truly fantasyland. Her eyes sparkle in delight, as she fishes for more apple slices for the beautiful beast. ]

Do you think I can ride one?

[ Would the zoo even allow it? Can they buy one to add to their stable? ]

[ He doesn't feel qualified to have a sibling—the best he can do is be present and accepting, unconditionally so. Maybe that's enough. He doesn't need a sister to take care of him; just having Athy here is remarkable. Being around when she finds something that makes her happy and laugh so brightly is—

He shivers, shoving his hands in his pockets before he raises a brow. ]

I don't see why not. She seems docile.

[ THEY HAVE NO MORE HORSE MONEY but they will inevitably find some i hate it here. Anyway, he apparently has no issue with this, and somehow does not see why the zoo would care? ]

They rather famously don't like men though, so it'd be a solo ride. Is that all right?

[ Would Athanasia ask for more than someone who's present and accepting when she's used to— Why, she's used that, isn't she? Being abandoned, being left alone, being rejected—those are not fears she's ever had.

She blinks rapidly before she leans closer to Dimitri, noticing that shiver. ]

Are you okay, Dima? [ But because she is mostly sure he'll brush it off like everything's fine, she moves on. ] But you're more like a pure maiden than I am sometimes?

[ She is mostly kidding. Not all kidding. She smiles up at him, obviously teasing. ]

If you think it's okay, I know it'll be!

[ She may not be the horse girl in their family, but she takes an interest because Dimitri does. If you want to spend time with your brother, you try to do what he does. She probably idolized him a bit when she was younger, but now she's older, wiser, spunkier. ]

[ He does indeed brush it off with an idle wave of his hand. It's just one of those moments anyone might have—an inexplicable shiver going down a dark hallway, a sudden twitch of the hand where he reacts to nothing at all.

He's been having a lot of strange little hiccups like that lately, but nothing that he won't attribute to stress. That's part of why they're out here, isn't it? To get a breather from how wild the FONY studio is lately. ]

Pardon? I'm nothing of the sort?

[ Nevermind that she's totally WRONG, he still lets out a disbelieving little cough. When did she learn to sass?? He tries to get the pegasus's attention to avoid talking about this any more with his little sister, of all people. she's just a baby (she's 14) she's baby ]

And I'm certain it will be fine so long as you're patient with her.

[ The pegasi ignores him completely, as expected, because it is a misandrist. But he'll go ahead and sweep Athy up with both hands; she's so little and light, easy to scoop up and drop atop a noble steed. But he takes a moment to spin with her; it's something their father would do, like he'd effortlessly toss them up above his head, for just a second, free of gravity, before safely collecting them again, all laughs and giggles.

The memory clings especially tight to him today. The joy in tiny, passing moments like that is something he'll never take for granted. ]

—It's been a while since we've both had a day off like this, hasn't it? We should make more time to come by here.

[ It may be a moment that could happen to anyone, but Dimitri isn't just anyone to Athanasia. He's her dear brother who is so strong and stalwart in her mind, at least physically. He may have a temper, he may get embarrassed easily about certain things, and he may be an idiot, but idiots don't catch colds.

Because her brother will always be there for her.

Even if he's frustratingly oblivious sometimes, on purpose or not. She's FOURTEEN.

He scoops her up before she can sass him more, and her laughter has more shades of surprise than anything, as her arms find their way around him, but the sheer and genuine delight that lights up her face that follows is hard to miss. These small moments are ones she tries to hold onto, the pockets of time they can be a normal family. ]

Yeah, I miss you when I'm working.

[ She shouldn't be working at 14, but this is life.

No matter the life, she gets a little lonely. ]

I miss the time we used to have sometimes.

[ I'm glad that she realizes he's an idiot. Even in AU, that much is sadly apparent. He pushes himself hard and suffers the consequences for it enough that he must be an idiot. But he doesn't mind working hard—and he can't help but spend every ounce of himself being who he is. A stuntman, a student, a son and a brother.

He's happy to be all of those things. In that moment, seeing the way her expression turns bright—he's happy, and he wonders why that feels so foreign, so ill-fitting despite the situation. It makes something in the pit of his stomach go cold and heavy, but he can't help but be warmed by her presence either; his expression turns milder, though still soft with nostalgia. ]

I do too.

[ He just wants to hold onto these moments with her. She's growing up—they don't have forever. ]

But we still have those times. I'll never be far if you need me.

[ ...The words feel strangely grave, but it's nice to be able to promise that. He shakes off the nerves and smiles as he helps her settle atop the pegasus, which is tolerating his presence in the meantime. ]

—Listen to us, getting all serious. As though we don't work at the same company and live in the same house. [ He's just needy, apparently!! ]

[ Love does not blind Athy. She can still notice a person's flaws - unless they're her mother. In which case, her mother is the loveliest and a beautiful fairy.

His affection fills her with warmth. His promise to always be there for her makes her close her eyes as they sting with tears, the gravity and sincerity ramming at crumbling walls that she doesn't think she should have.

She laughs again, the sound bright and free as if to knock away any wavering and watery undercurrents, as she settles more comfortably and securely on top of the pegasus. ]

I was going with your flow! You're too serious sometimes. [ She doesn't say it like a bad thing. It's a truthful observation, an accurate judgment.

She gets serious, too, like just now, but it's not to the extent that he does. And maybe she needed to say that because for as young as she is, she's always felt like her time with her family wouldn't last forever unchanged. ]

No matter how near or far you are, you're going to be like that.

[ The pegasus puts her at the right height to lean over and kiss him on the cheek. ]

Love you, Dima.

[ She grabs hold of the reins. She knows how to ride a horse, but can she get a pegasus to fly without issue? ]
